For Friday’s festivities, dress for a fun cocktail party. For the wedding, dress slightly more formally than you did on Friday, but not ultra-fancy.

As of 2025,

AMERICANS REQUIRE ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION

to visit the UK. The application costs £16 and can be completed online or via the ETA app. You will receive email confirmation of ETA approval in 3 working days or less. You must apply for the electronic travel authorization before traveling to the UK.

STAY

We recommend our guests stay in Edinburgh to make the most out of their trip to Scotland. Borthwick Castle is ~35 minute drive from Edinburgh city center. Guests should catch a cab (or Uber et.al.) from Edinburgh to Borthwick Castle for the festivities. There will be transport from the castle back to Edinburgh city center later in the evening.

OLD TOWN - Chic and historic (central)

NEW TOWN - Also chic and immediately abuts Old Town (central)

STOCKBRIDGE - North of New Town (still central but slightly quieter)

WEST END - Wee corner between Old and New Towns

NEWINGTON - South of Old Town (still central but with more affordable hotel options)

NOTE: Leith and Portobello are east of the city center. Staying in these neighborhoods will make your commute longer.
